Talk about deliverance

Sometimes it can be easy to forget about miracles God has done in our lives. I haven’t forgotten the particular miracle God performed when he moved us here to Georgia. At some point throughout the course of each day I am made aware of how truly fortunate we are to be living here, in this area, in this home. At the time we sold our home, for 50,000 dollars less than what we paid for, we had know idea how truly amazing that sell was going to be. Jason recently was on Zillow.com and proceeded to tell me that homes in our old neighborhood were selling for even less. One house sold for $90,000 and our exact model sold for $110,000…… 90,000 dollars less than what we bought it for! There are brand new homes that are significantly smaller in that subdivision that are selling for $33,000. It is mind-blowing. The whole story of our move from there to here is in deed miraculous. I was compelled to thank God this morning for delivering us from what could have been a serious burden. We could have been stuck…. for who knows how long. But God was gracious in a way we can not ignore.

And then I think about the people who are stuck. People who bought in the peak of the market and conceivably will NEVER get back what they paid. Even if they are content to not move it still must be excruciating to see the estimated value of your home at half of what you mortgaged it for.

Jason and I WERE blessed to get outof that home. But that doesn’t mean that others aren’t blessed if they don’t….. Often we want to think if a person is blessed it’s because something is going well (or even at points in our distorted mind that things are going our way). I know for myself that often is what comes to mind when you say “Blessed.” But I also know from experience that hardships and trials can bring blessings as well. At first when I started writing this it was to offer thanks to the Almighty God who I am so grateful to be in relationship with. The God who sold our home when it seemed like an impossible thing. But through the course of writing this I also want to offer encouragement to those who feel hopeless. Especially if you are dealing with the stress of this current housing market. We have to trust and believe that God knows what he is doing. Often I have prayed and asked that same thing that the father of the possessed boy in Mark 9:24 exclaims “I do believe. Help me overcome my unbelief!” His ways are higher and he always has a plan for us that is greater than our own.

The song “Blessings” By Laura Story couldn’t have stated this truth better.

We pray for blessings, we pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering

All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops?
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near?

What if trials of this life
Are Your mercies in disguise?

We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough

And all the while You hear each desperate plea
And long that we’d have faith to believe

Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears?
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near?

And what if trials of this life
Are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us, when darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home
It’s not our home

Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears?
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near?

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst
This world can’t satisfy?

And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise
